Eyelid surgery

Upper blepharoplasty or eyelid surgery uses incisions to allow for removal of skin and fat. A thin stitch is then used to bring the skin together to allow for a creation of an eyelid crease.

Instructions pre and post procedure

  1. In order to speed up the healing process and prevent bleeding and bruising, it is better to refrain from taking aspirin, vitamin E, garlic, ginseng and smoking for a week before the operation. Also, avoid taking profen, alcohol and coffee for two days before the surgery.
  2. After surgery, it is better to use two pillows to head up and the head should be approximately at an angle of 30 degree.
  3. On the day of surgery eat a light meal. Start with liquids and then soup or jelly. Two days later you can start a regular meal.
  4. Some bleeding from the incision and swelling of the eyelids is normal, but in the following cases, contact the doctor office @If bleeding continues @ If inflamation is much higher on one side than on the other
  5. If the pain is severe -Take your medication as prescribed.
  6. You can wash your face on the second day after the operation. There is nothing wrong with wetting the stitches.
  7. Avoid strenuous activity for 1 week.
  8. Use artificial tears if you wake up in the morning with symptoms of eye irritation or redness of the eye (due to not closing the eyes completely shortly after the operation and drying and irritating the eyes).Tearing and dry eyes often occur after eyelid surgery. As the swelling subsides over the first few days, these conditions improve.
  9. The feeling of eyelids stretching, incomplete closing of the eyes and numbness of the eyelids are normal after the operation and gradually disappear. It is better to use an ice pack from the second day after opening the dressing to reduce the possibility of swelling and bruising.
  10. Redness of the whites area of eyes is normal. In this case, there is no pain and blurred vision and redness will disappear completely.
  11. Blurred vision after surgery is common and is caused by corneal inflammation and may take several weeks to resolve.
  12. Facial makeup is possible from the fifth day after surgery, but eyelid or eyelash makeup should be postponed until after suturing.
  13. Avoid strenuous activity or lifting more than 2 kg for 1 week after surgery.
  14. All surgical incisions in the repair phase are very sensitive to sunlight. Avoid direct sunlight. Outdoors, even on cloudy days, wear sunglasses and apply sunscreen only on the outer part of the upper eyelid incision.
  15. Swelling and bruising after surgery in some people may last up to 2 weeks.
  16. Possible complications of eyelid surgery are minor asymmetries, diplopia, blurred vision and scarring, but most of the complications are transient or correctable.
  17. Visit 5 days after the operation to remove the sutures and use anti-scar gel regularly to remove the scar.
  18. After one month, the scar will be reduced by 70% and you will see a final result 2 months after the operation
