Why does the effect of Botox disappear sooner in some people ؟

The average longevity of Botox is 4 months, which means that in one person it may last longer than 4 months and another less than that. Of course, if it is renewed in time, it may have a longer shelf life than before, but there are many factors that are directly or indirectly involved in the shelf life of Botox.

1- High metabolism: People with high metabolism start to break down and absorb Botox earlier

2- Experience of Botox- injectors: It is always recommended to do this by a dermatologist because he/she is more familiar with the anatomy of the face and the function of different types of botox but sometimes even an experienced injector uses lower units of botox to create very natural results particulary in age 50+ but conversaly that can result in earlier disappearance of botox.

3-Failure to touch up (if needed) in time: The first injection of Botox may not provide the expected results because the response of the facial muscles to Botox treatment is unknown and it is not possible to determine how much injection the muscle needs and therefore a session so called touch up treatment is a common appointment that takes place after two weeks of injection, if more units are needed to get the best results, but this touch up is required in less than 20% people.

4-Exercise: People who are athletes may have less longevity because they have more muscle activity. Weight loss will make the effect of Botox disappear sooner

5-Cigarettes or hookahs: People who smoke regularly are more prone to premature aging and more wrinkles, and in these people, the effect of Botox eventually disappears sooner.

6- Excessive use of muscles: The muscles in the area around the eyes (crow's feet) because they are used more, the effect of Botox in this area disappears sooner than other places. Likewise, people who are accustomed to frowning a lot may have a shorter lifespan of Botox.

7- Type of Botox: People who have previously injected Chinese or Iranian Botox, may not have up to 3 months by injecting standard Botox such as Dysport or Neronox or Allergan BOTOX. There are even mechanical differences between Botoxes that may cause differences in lifespan of botox in different individuals.

8- Sun: Prolonged exposure to the sun or not using sunscreen regularly causes premature aging and sagging skin, and this indirect issue can cause the effects of Botox to disappear sooner.

9- Using Botox vial, which has been open for more than two weeks, may reduce its shelf life; Of course, this possibility is very rare because usually a dermatologist do Botox several clients daily and Botox is diluted on the same day .

Finally, you should note that all of these points are probabilities and there is no certainty in medical work due to individual factors.
